SK Rent-a-Car (Co-CEOs: Shin Jeong-ho and Park Sang-wook) announced on the 16th that it will switch the vehicle release process at its Jeju Branch to a contactless system at the end of this month and enhance the experience of Jeju travelers by strengthening its premium vehicle offering and hotel-level customer service. The company plans to reduce waiting times for vehicle release after pickup, improve its airport guidance and vehicle preparation systems, and expand both vehicle choices suited to different travel purposes and local partnership benefits.
■ From Airport Guidance to Vehicle Preparation and Release… Greater Customer Convenience
At the end of this month, SK Rent-a-Car plans to switch the release process at its Jeju Branch, through which customers leave the branch after renting a vehicle, to a contactless system. This will cut waiting times for vehicle release and allow customers to start their Jeju trips more quickly and conveniently once they have picked up their vehicles.
Last month, the company opened a new branch desk inside Jeju International Airport, creating a touchpoint where customers can receive vehicle rental guidance and make on-site reservations right after arriving at the airport. Staff at the desk guide visitors through every step, from boarding the shuttle to picking up their vehicle at the branch, and customers without a prior reservation can also book on site, making vehicle rental more convenient for both domestic and international travelers.
The company also built an in-house gas station at the branch, shortening the vehicle preparation process that runs from vehicle return through maintenance, refueling and washing. This has freed up more time for pre-delivery inspections and hygiene management, improving the preparation system so that customers receive clean, carefully maintained vehicles.
■ Premium Vehicles and New Driving Experiences, Paired with Hotel-Level Service
SK Rent-a-Car is also widening its range of vehicles to suit different travel purposes and preferences. Following the Volvo XC60, currently in operation, and the Hyundai IONIQ 9, introduced in August, the company will add the Toyota Alphard Hybrid and the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid within this month.
The Volvo XC60 is well suited to families with children who value safety and a comfortable ride. The IONIQ 9 is a large electric SUV with a spacious three-row cabin and the quietness unique to electric vehicles, making it ideal for travelers who want a quiet, relaxed journey with family or a group of companions. The Toyota Alphard Hybrid, a seven-seat premium minivan with three rows of seating, offers a comfortable ride that makes it well suited to family trips with parents and to business VIP transportation. The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, with its high fuel efficiency and stable handling, suits travelers looking for economical and dependable transportation as they explore every corner of Jeju.
In addition, since September 1, the company has been operating some 60 Tesla vehicles equipped with 'FSD (Full Self-Driving) Lite,' Tesla's driver-assistance feature that operates under driver supervision. These vehicles offer a distinctive rental experience to travelers who want to try new driver-assistance technology, and sales in September, after their introduction, rose 41.2% compared with June, before the introduction.
Beyond differentiated vehicles and technology, the company is also raising the level of its customer service. SK Rent-a-Car has brought in Son Jang-ho, a hotel and resort operations expert, as the new Head of its Jeju Business Division, to bring service know-how from the hotel industry to the rental car frontline. The company aims to deliver hotel-level service by combining a convenient rental process with attentive care for each customer's travel purpose and needs.
Son has led the opening preparations and operations of global hotel groups and large integrated resorts, and has served as general manager of a resort in Jeju. Drawing on an understanding of Jeju's tourism scene and of domestic and international customers, Son will oversee the services and overall operations of the Jeju Branch. In particular, the branch plans to strengthen on-site guidance and customer service so that international customers can also easily understand the rental process and drive with peace of mind.
Along with strengthening on-site services, SK Rent-a-Car is expanding partnerships that link getting around Jeju with the travel experience itself. 'Jeju Drive Pass,' launched on the 30th of last month, integrates benefits from some 50 partners across the island, including Aqua Planet Jeju, Snoopy Garden and Ecoland Theme Park, allowing customers to enjoy a variety of local content as they travel around Jeju by rental car. With the Jeju Branch as a hub, the company connects travelers with local tourism businesses and brands, broadening customers' travel experiences while contributing to shared growth with the local community.
These partnerships build on the activities the Jeju Branch has carried out since announcing its transformation into a marketing platform in February 2025. SK Rent-a-Car has so far collaborated with around 20 brands, including Kundal, Orion, Paldo, Hollys and Osulloc. Going forward, the company plans to expand collaboration with attractive local brands through the Jeju Branch, which serves more than one million customers a year, offering customers differentiated travel experiences and contributing to the local economy.
Son Jang-ho, Head of SK Rent-a-Car's Jeju Business Division, said, "The Jeju Branch is the first impression of a trip to Jeju and a mobility marketing platform that connects customers with a variety of brands," adding, "By combining a convenient rental process and differentiated vehicles with the attentive service know-how built up in hotels and resorts, we will create a place where domestic and international tourists alike are satisfied." Son continued, "We will keep expanding collaboration between the region and brands, and give international tourists visiting Korea a first impression of their trip that they will remember for its warm hospitality and moving moments."
